Monitoring the capacity and state of charge of the battery is extremely important to ensure the reliable operation of the technical system that includes the battery, and therefore there is a need for constant measurement of these parameters, both during the operation of the system and at rest. One of the methods for estimating the various characteristics of the battery directly in the process of operation is the measurement of the state of charge by the electrolyte density. In this work, an optical refractometric sensor is considered, whose operation is based on the dependence of the amount of light loss in an optical waveguide on the refractive index of the medium in which this waveguide is immersed. The optimal geometric characteristics of the waveguide were selected. It is determined that the use of the differential measurement method does not provide full compensation for the effect of temperature on the signal of the considered sensor. It has been established that sulfuric acid concentration at which the sensor temperature error is minimal, allowing its industrial use, is 31 wt. %.
